Staying at Nikko Tokanso was a delight. The traditional ryokan atmosphere truly transports you. The onsen facilities stood out — both indoor and outdoor pools provided a serene setting for relaxation. I appreciated that the onsen was mostly empty, allowing for a peaceful soak. The meals were exceptional, especially dinner, which featured a variety of small plates that felt both authentic and filling. The staff members were genuinely helpful and made my stay enjoyable despite the occasional language barrier. I found the location convenient, just a short walk to the World Heritage Nikko Temple District. On the downside, the room felt slightly dated, and I struggled with limited electrical outlets for my devices. Additionally, the air conditioning worked a bit too well at times, making the room uncomfortably warm. Nonetheless, the charming ambiance and delicious food made the stay memorable.

staying at tokanso was a joy! the hot tub facilities were fantastic, and the meals were truly a highlight. every dish felt authentic and delicious. plus, it’s conveniently located near beautiful parks and old shrines, making it easy to explore the area.

This place was just an excellent fit for a brief retreat in Nikko with good value for cost. The onsen was beautifully relaxing and I enjoyed having it almost to myself. For a quieter experience, try to visit during off-peak hours.

During our stay, the onsen experience was absolutely delightful, especially with large family-friendly hot spring pools! We loved indulging in the variety of delicious small plates at dinner, and the kids enjoyed the beautiful nature surrounding the inn while playing with our beloved pet.
